What is a Foot Care Nurse?
A foot care nurse is a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse who has taken extra certifications in order to be qualified to provide foot care. They also are in good standing with The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
What is the difference between foot care from a Nurse vs. a Pedicure in a Spa?
Generally a pedicure in a spa is aesthetic. They can provide basic care such as nail trim, file, polish application and a foot soak. Foot care Nurses treat thickened nails, corns, calluses, non-surgical removal of ingrown toenails, work with patients who have Diabetes and common foot issues associated with the condition. They are also trained in recognizing other problems associated with lower limbs and feet and can refer you to the appropriate practitioner.
Who should see a Foot Care Nurse?
Everyone! Foot health is important and by having regular feet check-ups, a concern can be identified before it becomes a serious issue. It is especially important for those who have vision disturbances, unable to reach your feet, neuropathies (reduced sensation), reduced circulation, etc.
